Daylight Saving - its now time for South Africa to follow suit
For several months every year, daylight saving time (DST) affects well over a billion people in 70 countries throughout the world.
Yet most people switch their clocks backward and forward without ever understanding where this revolutionary idea came from or how, throughout its history, DST has led to surprisingly contentious clashes between numerous politicians, scientists, and interest groups all across the globe.
Daylight Saving times proposed:
Start: 01h59.59 1st Sunday in September
End: 02h59.59 1st Sunday in April

I ENTHUSIASTICALLY support the notion of daylight savings in SA, not only to save energy but also to increase our period of safe movement and leisure after the work period. I believe that the implementation is issues are not as severe as believed.

Why does our Government appear ignorant of the advantages of daylight saving?
Instituting the system in December would have saved a great deal of electricity and would have been a quick fix to assist our present power shortages.

changing the times will also mean that the kids will not have to go to school in the dark in winter. I like this idea.

I was always shocked when visiting Johannesburg at the time the sun rose in the morning and how soon twilight came in the evening compared to Cape Town. Really for them it is a no-brainer. For the Cape more fun in the sun - say no more. Bring it on.
