Daylight Saving - its now time for South Africa to follow suit
For several months every year, daylight saving time (DST) affects well over a billion people in 70 countries throughout the world.
Yet most people switch their clocks backward and forward without ever understanding where this revolutionary idea came from or how, throughout its history, DST has led to surprisingly contentious clashes between numerous politicians, scientists, and interest groups all across the globe.
Daylight Saving times proposed:
Start: 01h59.59 1st Sunday in September
End: 02h59.59 1st Sunday in April

Should be split into 2 time zones as well, this would also increase productivity, as overall would men 1 hour more working ie Durban and joburg should be 1 hour ahead of Cape TOwn/

If the country was split into 2 time zones AND daylight savings was introduced this would go a hell of a long way to making HUGE savings in electricity. At least the eastern half would not have to be putting on lights at 1900hrs!!!!

Good idea, sleep when it is dark and work and play in the daylight. We need to save electricity where we can to lessen the burden on all.

We could easily change our clocks by TWO hours a day. Assuming there are 6,920,000 rooms( see census figures) excluding institutions and hostels, this would save just on 5 billion hours of energy in the six months.
